How is Ritual Design currently implented? In other words, how is it used? Who knows? Actually I know. It is still vague though. Here is how you make a ritual:
0) Decide what you want... i.e. hand the GM a spell idea. You should hand the GM a concept with some sense of how much damage, how long what does it change, etc. It helps if you base it on some sorcery or group of sorceries.
1) Make three successfull W: research rolls in the appropriate school(s) This gets the basic design down- do I need a power source, will I require material components..stuff like that.
2) Make three successfull R: research rolls in the appropriate rune language(s).This is picking your hardware. What kind of power converter do I use? What channeling link? Where is the power stored between transition A and B?
3) Make three successfull L: rolls in the appropriate language(s) This is the easiest. I would tend to give you some pluses at this point. It is critical though- this is wiring all the hard components together making sure all the runes can be linked in the way you want them too.
A research roll is the same as a skill roll except that it takes 6 hours normally to make a research roll(on average). If you fail three research rolls in a row in any of these fields you must start again because you barked up the wrong tree. It costs 10 mental exhaustion an hour to do spell research.
What ritual design does is give you 3% per rank(6% if you have the ritual design for that specific school) to these rolls...and it reduces the time between rolls by 1/2 hour per RANK if you make your skill roll(+ 30 to skill roll if you have the specific school's skill) otherwise 1/4 hour per rank.
Once you have completed all the steps you will have RANK 0.0 in thespell and can begin training in it. BE WARNED: Failures don't always stop the spell.. you can create a weaker version than you want or one that is very dangerous... this usually comes out as you are trying to learn it. On the other hand crits in research can give you a stronger spell
You may set-up(in hours), and double-time, but you may not use a focus, or power to help
