WILL- SOUL- INTENTION (BELIEF)- BE- SLAAD/GODS- CHAOS
WORD- FORM- PATTERN (LANGUAGE)- DO- DRAGON/ELVES- BALANCE
WAY- SUBSTANCE- KNOWLEDGE (CRAFT)- HAVE- KUA-TO/ELDAR- ORDER
These three paths are the three most atomic elements in the universe of my world. Everything is made up of some combination one or more of substance, form, and soul.
Magic could be said to be the expression of will in a manner that goes beyond the framework automatically given by the World Context
IN the first epoch (THE UNFORMED) the war was fought between being and non-being; existence and non-existence.
Being and existence won. All future Epochs lived in that world- everything before those might not have existed but everything that existed from now on could not be taken away.
IN the second Epoch (THE HIVE MINDS), the war was fought between singleness(the individual) and unity (society). Borders, distinctions, and difference was created in the second epoch. Singleness won. It was the last clear victory.
This was the seed of the Elves. Correllan and Dof-Sifrin shaped the insects. Although the Insects died out, some evolved into the Elves under Correllan's guidance. The Elves are the last direct remnant of the Hive-Mind. However- what the elves are now is nothing like what they were then. They reflect the Epoch they are in. They were insects originally and then became Slaad in Epoch 3, then became dragons in Epoch 4, and humanoid in Epoch 5
However, they truly are derivative of the Epoch- so they lost the battle for their epoch. There is no will, word, or way equivalent that is unique to them- but they can use all of them...
IN the third Epoch (THE CREATORS), the war was fought between will and way. Way gained ascendancy. The natural laws, order, and cyclical time were developed in this era. But at a terrible cost...
IN the fourth Epoch (THE DRAGONS), the war was fought between word and way. This Epoch ended in a terrible draw that cost the lives of most of the players. The world the players now know grew from the bitter ashes of that great conflict.
IN this the fifth Epoch the scholars who know enough to even think this thinking wonder: What is the war we fight? And are we on the right side?
